This pilot project, to launch Ocober first, 2008, stems from the hopes of helping re-establish physical and mental well being of those individuals having suffered trauma from sexual abuse. The project consists of the construction of a retreat with stables that will house the patients; young women between the ages of 12 to 18 years of age. During their three months stay, psychologists and horse experts collectively will examine thru observation and analysis, the behavioural patterns of the young women. Putting together all observations to see the overall improvement if any, thru their interaction and emotional relations with the horses.
The equestrian development aspect is not the principle objective, rather the hands on process is merely a theraputic technique to be combined with the whole. It is the entire visible interactive behaviour throughout the space of the stables that encompasses our endeavour to relate globally to the horses. We hope to create a new discipline of therapy that could become a branch of zootherapy. Having psychologists as alliances to horse experts, this in itself establishes new areas in the development of hippotherapy.
Utilized in Europe for many years, therapy with horses has demonstrated positive and promising results. In order for it to evolve to an even greater depth of study and therapy, this is precicely why we are asking for psychologists to merge with experts in hippotherapy. Ultimatly to seek more effective results.
